Thank you Stricklandgate

So many hats at church this morning.......provide Traidcraft coffee, hand over a safeguarding form, give someone some material to return to its owner. Make one adjustment to the PowerPoint as I had spotted a mistake, check with the pianist she knew which verses I was omitting..and then I could finally sit quietly in the vestry and re-read my notes. If I was a local preacher, I could just arrive and be looked after!!

All that said, reactions were so positive and so lovely. In fact there was quite a buzz afterwards. Not just 'lovely' either but 'thought provoking' and 'You must have seen that everyone was in thrall'. I had been anxious, as this week was very different in style from the previous month's service. It was our 'Climate Service' before COP 26, so it felt important. How to engage without turning them off, how to stimulate without making everyone feel guilty.

Came home for lunch and decided I could read a book and relax for a bit......and predictably in the relief, I nodded off. I was awakened by messages from the family. Now Fyfe has had a positive lateral flow test, so Beth's family are besieged. There were messages too, about how Joe is settling in at uni.

Then unexpectedly, Mary and John turned up and had a cuppa with me, and I had a chat with Caroline as she had been to get farm eggs for me. Nice to have a sociable afternoon. I picked fresh raspberries from the garden, and probably the last handful of sweet peas. Supper, some of the final of the Leeds Piano Competition on telly, and the last episode of the Vigil. Now it's windy and wet. The last two days have been dreary and dull here, and so dark in my house. I have a walk planned for tomorrow. 🤞we can go ahead.
